Early Childhood
Through their art classes, students in the Early Childhood department receive an introduction to color, line, shape, and pattern. Exploration of a wide range of art materials is encouraged and students begin to be exposed to famous artists and their work. Students in K3, K4, and K5 attend Art weekly, as well as participating in art activites in their classrooms on a daily basis.
Lower School
Students in first through fifth grades expand on their awareness of space, line, texture, pattern, shape, and color. As they grow and develop students are able to develop the use of two and three dimensional art materials while demonstrating the knowledge of art concepts. By the third grade these budding artists are able to create a portrait still life and landscape using a wide range of art materials. Their study of individual artists inspires them to create their own artistic style in their own works of art. All students in Lower School attend Art one day per week.
Middle School
A wide variety of projects expose the students to different mediums, art concepts, artists and time periods. Scholastic’s Art & Man magazine furthers this experience along with journal entries which reinforces the student’s learning.
Upper School Art
The students continue their study of various artists, art concepts, and time periods while learning new techniques. More advanced projects will be offered such as painting murals, learning to build a frame, throwing on the wheel, and photography.
